Frank is an award winning values-led eco-designer, strategist, speaker, mentor, evaluator, writer and artist passionate about good design, sustainability and responsibility. He is recognised as a global expert on eco-design and the circular economy.
Dr O’Connor has transdisciplinary and extensive experience of working in multicultural environments, multi-sectors and with all types and sizes of organisation. His professional journey began with his first project on material recycling in 1988 has included working on new product development, new business models, responsible brand development, value chains and communications as well as related policy development, public procurement and educational programmes.
Frank set up and ran the award-winning Ecodesign Centre between 2006 and 2013 and co-founded the European Network of Ecodesign Centres (ENEC) in 2012. He has held numerous roles, including being publicly appointed as an advisor on Advanced Materials & Manufacturing to the Welsh Government from 2011-13, and have been working for the European Commission and United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) as an independent expert for 10 years.
Frank has published extensively and was awarded a PhD in 2000 for his study of multi-stakeholder approaches to eco-design and a Master’s Degree in 1991 for his study on design for assembly and manufacture.
