Prof. Pat Brereton was born in Ireland and after receiving his third-level education lived in the United Kingdom for over a decade. He as a bachelor’s degree in English and History from University College Dublin and a master’s in film and television from the University of Westminister. In 2001 he completed his doctoral dissertation, Hollywood Utopia: Ecology in Contemporary American Cinema, at the University of Bedforshire. Alongside publishing his revised PhD (2005), his other books include Media Education (2001), Smart Cinema: DVD Add-ons and New Audience Pleasures (2012), Environmental Ethics and Film (2016) and Environmental Literacy and New Digital Audiences (2019) for Routledge. He is currently working on a new book for students, titled Essential Concepts for Environmental Literacy.
